Anthony Cossa’s unique
approach to music proves that polar opposites can exist in the same
space. His most air damaging solos still evoke beauty; his softest,
lilting melodies are often mean enough to rip your face off. Superb
technique, reckless abandon, progressive sophistication and hardcore
intent- all come into playful collision in his improv vision for Bag:
Theory.
On his home turf of Santa
Maria, CA, Anthony started his first band with life-long friend/drummer
Runt Miller, an artistic association that continues to this day. They
soon moved to Los Angeles where Cossa studied music and worked at his
chosen craft. Feeling the need to flee, he traveled north to Seattle,
WA, where he survived by playing in various blues and rock bands. With a
head full of new ideas, he returned to L.A. to form hardcore bands The
Blitz’d, Fungus, and Bent, which toured the West Coast. This was
followed by the Cossa/Miller release Feeling Frenzy, then the formation
of the groundbreaking minimalist ensemble Fried To A Crisp with Miller,
M. Segal and Richie Hass.
In ’98 Anthony joined the
legendary Bottom 12, touring Europe for a year. Upon the band’s
return, he and both drummers formed Deep Fried Jedi. Soon afterward, he
started his working relationship with Texas Terri and The Stiff Ones, a
gig which has taken him across the USA.
Now Anthony Cossa is the
prized possession of Bag: Theory. He will admit it’s his most
rewarding project because of his love of improvisation, a need for
freedom, and an innate need to experiment with music in all of its
forms.
It is because of Anthony’s
insistence and determination that Bag: Theory exists. It is because of
his genius that Bag: Theory has a heart.
